How an Ad Would Hide in an Answer
Advertising in a chat is unlikely to arrive as a box on the side. It arrives inside the answer: a brand named first, a comparison missing an option, a recommendation that is technically reasonable. That is harder to notice than a banner, which is precisely why it is attractive to sell.
The free chat on this site shows promotions, and the paid plans remove them. The pattern of ads hiding inside answers is worth describing anyway, because the category is moving towards it and the mechanism is not obvious.

The Answer Is the Surface
A banner is easy to ignore and easy to block, so the value is low. An answer that names one product first is not ignorable, because it is the thing you asked for. This is the reason the format shifts from around the content to inside it.
Omission Is the Strongest Form
A comparison that lists 4 options and leaves out the fifth is not false and it is not detectable from the answer alone. Omission needs no misleading sentence, which makes it both the most effective and the hardest to regulate.
What Disclosure Would Look Like
A label on the answer, a marker on the sponsored name, or a statement that the ranking is paid. None of these are common yet. The absence of disclosure is not evidence of advertising, and a clear disclosure is evidence of a service that has thought about it.
How to Check Anything Important
Ask the same question twice with the brand names removed, and ask what options were not mentioned. Both take a message and both surface omission, which is the part that would otherwise be invisible.
The questions free things deserve
Is any of this happening now?
Sponsored placement in assistant answers is being trialled by several large products. The direction is clear and the disclosure practice is not settled.
Would a paid service avoid it?
Paying reduces the incentive and does not remove it. Several paid products carry advertising.
Does this site do it?
The free chat shows promotions, and the paid plans, Plus and Pro, remove them. Whether an answer leans towards a brand is something you can check yourself by asking about competitors.
Ask about competitors here and see whether anything is missing.
